CERTAIN as a Teaching Tool - TH Rosenheim Integrates CERTAIN into its Curriculum

The requirements for CE marking are increasing – and so are the expectations of future engineers. It is therefore all the more important that during their studies, they not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also gain practical experience with the CE process.

A prime example of this is the collaboration with Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences.

In the Master's program in Engineering Sciences, CERTAIN was integrated into the curriculum as an interactive tool. The goal is not only to teach students how to conduct a complete risk assessment according to DIN EN ISO 12100, but also to enable them to perform it independently.

The Practical Scenario

– Design of a linked production system
– Definition of machine boundaries and boundary conditions
– Identification and assessment of risks
– Development and documentation of measures

The implementation is carried out collaboratively in the cloud – directly during the exercise.

A key insight: Many students initially underestimate the effort involved in a risk assessment. However, in practical application, it quickly becomes clear how crucial a systematic approach is for machine design.
